Robert D. Hunter

Robert D. Hunter completed a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Michigan State University. With an emphasis on Literature and Culture, he moved to the Navajo Nation in 1995, where he was a classroom teacher for three years. In 1997, he was named an Outstanding New Mexico Teacher of the Year. He completed a Master of Arts in Counseling from Western New Mexico University and has been a school counselor since 1998. He has also served as a coordinator for a federal sex offender treatment program. He advocates for culturally relevant teaching and counseling practices and has participated in both traditional and universal Native American ceremonies. He has shared glimpses into the vanishing ways of the past, while maintaining a watchful eye on the changing ways of the future. He is the author of Second Class Citizenship (Synergebooks) as well as co-author of Dark Truths (Virgin Books) with Dr. Christopher J. Kurtz.
